********************************* Milestone XProtect Advanced VMS 2014 ********************************* This ReadMe file provides information about any last-minute changes to the product, license information, how to contact product support and more. ------------- Known Issues: ------------- Milestone recommends updating the Windows OS completely before installing any XProtect software on it. When installing .Net 3.5 through Windows' "Turn Windows Features on or off" please uncheck the subfeatures "Windows Communication Foundation ... Activation". Otherwise the IIS installation might fail when installing XProtect Advanced VMS. When upgrading from version 4.1 or earlier of XProtect Corporate, the log entries are not migrated from the old log database. If choosing to install the server database on an existing remote SQL server, and both IPv4 and IPv6 are enabled but the network only supports IPv6, the SQL Server cannot be contacted using the host name. Instead. using the IP address of the SQL Server solves the problem. If running the XProtect Smart Client in a language using a non-Latin alphabet, the language for non-Unicode programs in Windows must be set to that non-Latin language. In Windows 7, this is selected in: Control Panel -> Region and Language -> Administrative. In the XProtect Smart Client, if the 'Video Quality' feature is used and then disabled, the feature is actually not disabled before switching to another view. The management server host name and IP address must be identical when moving from one server to another. When you move the management server from one physical server to another, it is very important that you give the new server the same host name and IP address as the old one, because the recording server connects to the host name and IP address of the old management server. If the new management server has been given a new host name and/or IP address, the recording server will not be able to find the management server and you will have to manually stop each recording server in your system, change the management server URL, and restart the recording server. On rare occasions, restoring the configuration will fail with the following error message "Failed to open the explicitly specified database". When this happens, the SQL database will be in recovery mode and cannot be used. Workaround: uninstall the management server, delete the failed SQL database (using the Microsoft SQL Management Studio tool), reinstall the SQL database and the management server and restore the configuration. Anti-virus scanning should be disabled on the %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Milestone folder to avoid files being locked by the anti-virus software. Generating a System Monitor PDF report might fail on some machines. If performing PTZ actions in the XProtect Smart Client by holding down one of the PTZ overlay buttons in the view, the buttons disappear after 10 seconds. To make the buttons re-appear, release the button. However, PTZ actions will continue even when the buttons disappear. On rare occassions, the timeline in the XProtect Smart Client will disappear, but you will still be able to play back video. Restarting the XProtect Smart Client will make the timeline re-appear. Smart Client performance may have degraded 10-20 % on CPUs older than 5 years, e.g. Pentium 4. The System Monitor functionality only works on computers using a gregorian (Western) calender. If having the Service Channel or Log Server installed on a seperate PC, the IIS on that PC must run on the same port as the IIS on the Management Server PC. Otherwise installation will fail. It is highly recommended to remove any program that using port 80 or port 443 on the Management Server as they will conflict with the Internet Information Service. After installation of XProtect Advanced VMS you may end up in a situation where one or more App pool in the IIS are stopped. This is a bug in OS and can be fixed by applying this hotfix -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960412. If you get into this situation the App Pools must be restarted manually. Database archives on shared storage (e.g. network shares) is not available when a recording server is in failover mode. Interconnected Products: It is not possible to auto-detect an XProtect Advanced VMS system using a basic user. Work around is to manually select the driver in the Add Hardware Wizard. All .NET updates must be installed before installing XProtect Advanced VMS. Installation might fail if an update is not installed. Changes made in the Configuration Report might not be saved locally on some installations. Work around is to right click on the Management Client and choose "Run as administrator". The hostname of the PC where the software is installed must comply with Microsoft NetBIOS Computer Naming Conventions. If installing a Failover Server on the PC where a normal Recording Server was previously installed (or vice-versa), the Recording Server must be deleted from the configuration before hand. It is also recommended to delete the folders under ProgramData and the registry keys associated with the previous installation. In rare occasions the Event Server might fail to install due to not being able to delete performance counters. Work around is to run the following command in a command prompt: 'lodctr /r'. This will rebuilt the missing performance counter settings. --------- Licensing: ---------- The product contains technology to prevent unlicensed use of the product.
